Wait for trigger as a step in automations

I'd like to be able to add a step in my automations where the system waits for a trigger, essentially an evolution of the wait for time option.

e.g. A workflow is initiated by an automation which will result in an adviser performing an assessment and changing the value of a field. The automation should wait for the field to be updated and then proceed depending on the value of the field
